It's an exciting time to be in London, particularly as a foreigner. This coming weekend is Jubilee Weekend, a four day holiday celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 60 years on the throne. While it's true that some Brits bitch and moan about the Royalty, it's also true that many of them feel protective of the institution and are quite proud of it. What I know is that it's good fun.

Everyone is getting on the bandwagon too - there are lots of TV shows and magazine stories showing retrospectives of the Queen's reign, which have been fascinating to watch and read. I think she's a pretty formidable woman myself, dedicated beyond all belief to a public that many times hardly deserves her. Katy Brand, one of my favourite comedians ever, does a fantastic riff on the Queen.
The big question, of course, is what's going to happen to Charles - since she will never abdicate, where does that leave him? There are as many opinions about this as there are people drinking pints in the sunshine.
It's also the kickoff to a big summer season for the UK, as we are preparing to host the world for the Olympics. While I'm quite excited for that, I'm not convinced that London has what it takes to handle that many tourists on it's narrow streets and ancient public transport system. But we've got time. In the meantime enjoy all that is British!
